MY APPROACH

I am a Humanistic therapist - my approach blends person-centred counselling skills with an existential worldview. Simply put, this means I provide an empathic, unbiased space where you are respected and cared for as we explore your world. I am interested in how wider social, and cultural issues (and expectations) can affect us - essentially, what it means for you to be alive, in this world, today.
I endeavour to create an atmosphere of ease and openness, offering a warm, patient and caring manner through which a safe and secure environment is established.

The relationship between us is very important. An initial session or two should be enough to know whether I am the right person for you to talk with and, after that, therapy can last a number of weeks, months or sometimes much longer.
I'll work with you using sensitive inquiry, authentic involvement and a desire to understand the challenges or blocks in your life - essentially what brought you to therapy (this isn't always obvious). I am receptive to seeing people beyond how they outwardly may appear - and aware that they may be suffering in ways which aren't evident at all.

Because the relationship between client and counsellor is so crucial, I spend time, commitment and effort developing that relationship, working collaboratively with you throughout. This type of supported, deep exploration, with someone uninvolved in your life, can be relieving and allow you to think more strategically about your life. This in turn can enable a new depth of self understanding, empowering you to live your life in a more satisfying, meaningful and connected way.
